There are steps that can be taken to prevent, or at least minimize, the damage done by these nonnative pests. The best defense would be to prevent the introduction of these species into the area. This is not always possible, so having a monitoring and detection plan in place is essential. Early detection of a nonnative species can lead to a rapid response to eliminate or control the potential pest.
