They are often known as airframe and powerplant (A&P) mechanics . Aircraft mechanics perform the following tasks: • troubleshoot, adjust, and repair (or replace) aircraft parts and systems according to specifications, technical drawings, manuals, and established procedures • dismantle aircraft engines, airframes, or other aircraft systems for inspection, repair, overhaul, cleaning, and reassembly • use gauges and other diagnostic equipment to test aircraft parts and systems

• utilize X-rays, or magnetic or ultrasonic inspection equipment, to identify cracks that cannot be seen on a plane’s exterior, and then repair affected areas
