Cisgender: A person who feels generally comfortable in the gender they were assigned at birth; someone who is not gender expansive. Gender binary: The conception of human nature that defines all people as either female or male. Gender expansive: An umbrella term for anyone whose gender does not match the gender they were assigned at birth, whether that is the opposite gender or somewhere in the middle. Gender nonconforming: Someone who doesn’t live by traditional gender rules; can also be used as a synonym for gender expansive. Social construct: A concept created by human society that only exists because everyone in the society agrees that it does. Transgender: Someone who identifies with the opposite end of the gender binary than the one they were assigned at birth; can also be used as a synonym for gender expansive.
