Hits First Major League Home Run Arenado couldn’t have picked a more fitting stadium, or opponent, in which to register his memory-making first major league home run. Growing up in Lake Forest, California—just 50 miles south of venerable Dodger Stadium (which has been the backdrop to some of the most goose bump–producing moments in baseball history), where his favorite childhood team played—Arenado stepped to the plate in just his second game as a major leaguer early in the 2013 season and sent a Josh Wall pitch over the center field wall for a two-run home run in the fifth inning. An inning earlier,he had collected his first major league hit, a single off Wall that loaded the bases in a game the Rockies would comfortably tuck away by a 12–2 margin. Arenado put the finishing touches on a night to remember

by adding another single in the ninth inning off the Dodgers’ Skip Schumaker for a three-hit game.
