In 1969, the US Advanced Research Projects Agency connected computers at four universities, creating the first network. The computers could “talk” to each other, enabling researchers to share data and work together. Essentially, ARPANET was the basis for the modern Internet that people use today. Over time, more computers were connected to ARPANET, and communication exchange via computing progressed throughout the 1970s.
