COMPUTER GAME DEVELOPERS Game developers design, write, program, animate, and test computer games. At large companies, they typically specialize in one of these tasks and may be known as game designers and engineers, game programmers, game authors, game composers, game artists, etc. Developers who are self- employed and those who work at small companies perform all these tasks and many others (marketing, sales, etc.) to develop and sell games. To make it even more confusing, some companies may describe those who work on the creative side of video games as game designers, and those who write the computer code that allows the game to be played as game developers or game programmers. For the purposes of this book, game developers are those who work both on the creative and the technical aspects of games.
