Reports came from 27 states alto- gether, and that was just in the United States. There were similar reports coming in from around the world. Hackenberg called scientists at Pennsylvania State Uni- versity to tell them what was going on. The researchers then took samples of the few bees that Hackenberg still had left. What they found was disturbing: These were some sick bees.
