Red numbers highlight where a country’s score is relatively weak compared to other countries with economies of a similar size. Blue numbers show a relative strength, and black numbers show where each country performs about the same as countries with similar wealth. The chapters that follow explore some of the stories behind the scores and look at some of the reasons for relative strengths and weaknesses. You’ll see how wealth and social progress are not always related and how a high score does not mean that high social progress applies to everyone.
