Recognizing the various cloud formations can indicate what type of weather is approaching, and the type of kit required for an operation.

The clouds can tell you what the weather will be like, but you also need to be able to read the winds. A good way of doing this is using what is known as the Beaufort Scale. Smoke rises. Sea surface smooth. Smoke drifts, wind vanes are still. Wind felt on face. Vanes move.
