Even though Joe wasn’t playing, he wanted to share his knowledge with others. He had helped Kobe become a better players and thought he could do the same for others. So the Bryants moved to Philadelphia in 1992, and Joe took a job as a coach for a women’s varsity team in Pennsylvania. Kobe remained in Philadelphia until he finished high school. Much of Kobe’s basketball success is due to his father’s help over the years. Joe Bryant found a real talent in coaching others to do well on the court. He continued to coach other teams for many years. Eventually, Joe took over as head coach of the Los Angeles Sparks, a team in the Women’s National Basketbal Association (WNBA). Some might think Kobe inherited his talent for basketball from his father. But Kobe learned it takes more than that to be a great player. Joe taught Kobe that being a great basketball player takes hard work and determination.
