

Stay
It is easiest to teach this exercise with your puppy
on lead so you can control him. Start by asking him
to “Sit” and then stepping one pace to the side. Go
back and praise him for staying in position. Repeat
on the other side, and then stand in front of him and
try stepping back a couple of paces before returning
to him. If he is staying in position, introduce
the verbal cue, “Stay”. Build this up gradually,
extending the distance and the amount of time you
can leave your puppy.
