Sports Psychology
sports psychologists understand the range of medication that can help with common issues that athletes face, and even if they lack the credentials needed to prescribe it themselves, they can pass a recommendation on to a team doctor. These psychologists will also schedule follow-up appointments to monitor progression of this medical treatment, ensuring that the athlete is progressing well, or determining whether they need to halt the medication or change to another medication altogether. Given the risk of abuse of prescription medication, furthermore, a clinical sports psychologist will make certain that there are no warning signs of abuse. If necessary, they will revoke the prescription so that no further abuse can take place.
One of the most effective forms of clinical sports psychology is cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).
