Greatest Moments Christian Yelich’s MLB Career Christian Yelich has quickly developed into one of the best hitters in all of Major League Baseball (MLB). The Florida Marlins drafted him with their first pick in the 2010 draft, and after several years of being a role player, he has emerged as a budding superstar. Yelich began showing flashes of his potential greatness in the 2016 MLB season. It was in that season that he finished in double digits in home runs (21), had 98 runs batted in (RBI), scored 78 runs, and posted a .298 batting average. He continued to develop into a consistent player for the Marlins but never found his star on a team with players like Christian Colon, J. T. Realmuto, and future 2017 National League (NL) MVP Giancarlo Stanton who, like Yelich, left the Marlins in 2018 (Stanton went to the New York Yankees). Yelich finalized a nearly $50 million deal with the Marlins to begin the 2015 season. An injury to his back sidelined him for two weeks and a slow start at the plate resulted in his sharing time in the field. He never quite found his footing as a starter.
