Won National League Batting Title

Winning the batting title in 2018 helped raise Yelich’s profile among baseball journalists who cast their votes for MVP. How did he win the title? By ripping 187 hits for a .326 batting average, the best in the National League for 2018. He also led the National League with a 0.598 slugging percentage and reached base (including walks) just over 40 percent of the time. These numbers made him a dreaded hitter for National League pitchers to face and was one of the factors that contributed to his winning the title. In fact, Yelich fell just two home runs and one RBI short of becoming the first player since 1967 to win the

Triple Crown. In the NL, no player has led the league in hitting, home runs and RBI since the Cardinal’s Joe “Ducky” Medwick in 1937.

Yelich’s 3-for-4 effort in an October 1, 2018, matchup against

the Chicago Cubs for the National League Central Division title earned him the NL Batting Title with a season-ending 0.326 average.
