Scored 10,000 points in his career Durant began the 2012–2013 NBA seasons with high hopes. Coming off a disappointing NBA Finals loss to LeBron James and the Miami Heat, he wanted to keep Oklahoma City headed in the right direction toward hopefully a repeat Western Conference championship and NBA Finals trophy. He entered the season having scored 9,978 points in his career. In a game against the San Antonio Spurs, the first game of the new season (November 1, 2012), he needed only 22 points to join the elite list of players with 10,000 or more points scored in a career. How did he do? He scored 23.

Durant entered the 2012–2013 NBA season needing 22 points to reach 10,000 points. He accomplished this with a point to spare in an opening- season game against San Antonio on November 1, 2012.
