Named Most Valuable Player of the 2016–2017 NBA Finals

Durant left for Golden State before the 2016 season. He joined a Warriors squad that had just come off the best regular season performance in NBA history (73–9). The team came up short in the NBA Finals, losing to the Cleveland Cavaliers. The addition of Durant was a boon for the Warriors, who won 67 games in the regular season. They again faced the Cavaliers in the NBA Finals. The trio of Durant, Stephen Curry, and Klay Thompson beat the Cavs in five games. Durant’s 35.2 points per game, 5.4 assists per game, and 6.8 rebounds per game in the finals earned him MVP honors.

Durant was the difference-maker for the Golden State Warriors after joining the squad for the 2016–2017 season. He helped the team avenge the previous year’s NBA Finals loss against Cleveland, scoring 35.2 points per game to earn MVP honors.
