Cavalcante’s Arrest and Conviction

A warrant was issued for Cavalcante’s arrest, and the search began. Law enforcement officers interviewed multiple witnesses of the crime, each indicating that Cavalcante had been the one who had murdered Brandão and that he had fled shortly afterward. Brandão’s seven-year-old daughter was also interviewed, telling police officers what she had witnessed at the scene of the bloody crime. When officers showed the young girl a photo of Cavalcante, she quickly identified him as the perpetrator, telling authorities, “That’s him, that’s the guy that killed my mom. Please get him and put him in prison.” (Maxouris 2023) Meanwhile, Cavalcante was already making his journey away from Chester County, Pennsylvania, in his car, heading south. He would make it all the way to Prince William County, Virginia, before being apprehended. While driving, he was pulled over for a traffic stop at Exit 156 on Interstate 95 near Dale City, Virginia.
