My Teenage Life in Egypt
E G Y P T
Sadly, bomb attacks such as this one in 2015, are not unusual in Egypt and other nearby lands. An ancient struggle continues to affect tens of millions of people.
experts even fear that theweight of the trapped silt could collapse the dam. That would release millions of tons of waters and create a catastrophic flood. The government must deal with these issues in the coming years. The country already importsmuch of its food, so government officials would like to increase the amount of farmland. They began the New Val- ley Project in 1997. It takes water from Lake Nasser and pumps it into the desert west of the river. But the desert has high levels of salt, which can mix with the river water and make it more difficult to use. Despite this obstacle, the project is scheduled to be completed by 2020. According to estimates it will increase the amount of Egypt’s farmland by 10 percent and provide homes for 3,000,000 people.
