Cavalcante would again be spotted. That time, he was seen on a security camera at Longwood Gardens. At 8:21 p.m., footage showed a rugged Cavalcante walking north, carrying a new duffel bag in addition to his stolen backpack while clothed in a new hooded sweatshirt. An hour later, at 9:33 p.m., footage would once again show Cavalcante walking around Longwood Gardens, that time heading south. As of this sighting, Cavalcante had managed to escape the original search perimeter that authorities had created to catch him. Law enforcement would again bolster the manpower of search parties, flying helicopters over the search perimeter that played pre recorded messages of Cavalcante’s mother, speaking in Portuguese, telling Cavalcante to surrender and give himself up to authorities peacefully. However, in an interview with the New York Times , Cavalcante’s mother said that she felt that her son would be better off dying than going to prison, stating that she wants her son to “pay for his mistake with dignity. Not to pay with his life.” Consolidated School District and the Unionville-Chadds Ford School District to close down until further notice due to the expanding search. In a press conference, Lt. Col. Bivens would update the public on the search progress, asserting, “That pressure we [the police department] put on him is working. We squeezed him hard enough in a period of a few days where he couldn’t get some relief, and he squeezed out.” (Blanco 2023) On Tuesday night, a resident observed Cavalcante in a creek bed about 2.5 miles southeast of Chester County Prison, in the area of Chandler Road in Pennsbury Township. Cavalcante would quickly slip into the woods, evading capture. Authorities scoured the area for several hours but were unable to locate the fugitive.
