Cavalcante also opened up about his end goal, claiming that he planned to hijack a car and drive to New York, where he would then flee to Canada. While in Canada, he would then attempt to flee down to Puerto Rico and back to his home country of Brazil. After the interview with police, Cavalcante was transferred to the State Correctional Institution of Phoenix, located in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. Court proceedings related to Cavalcante’s escape would begin shortly thereafter, with a judge arraigning Cavalcante on twenty new charges, most notably felony escape, felony burglary, criminal trespassing, theft, and possession of a firearm.
