While many may think these audacious jailbreaks are confined to the past or Hollywood cinema, that is not always the case. Recent statistics show that in the 2010s, around 2,000 inmates managed to escape from federal and state prisons each year in the United States. Many of these breakouts occur at

quickly apprehended once more. However, there have been several modern-day examples of truly infamous jailbreaks. One of the most notable jailbreaks in recent times was that of convicted murderer Danelo Cavalcante. Cavalcante is a 34-year-old Brazilian national who, in late 2017, was accused of killing 20-year-old Valter Júnior Moreira dos Reis in Tocantins, Brazil. With a warrant out for his arrest, Cavalcante quickly fled the country, eventually making his Frank Abagnale Jr. was a criminal, confidence trickster, and escapee. He has since turned his life around.
